Warlord of Barsoom - also known as Jeddak of Jeddaks (though distinct from the Okar title) - is a title that was given to John Carter by a tribunal of mighty Jeddaks from all five races of Barsoom (Red Martians, Green Martians, Yellow Martians, Black Martians, White Martians). He received the title at the end of The Warlord of Mars. The title and its honor are shared by Carter's wife Dejah Thoris. The title did not exist prior to the events from "The Warlord of Mars", and was specifically created for John Carter to acknowledge his many victories and attempts to unite all Martian races.
It is unknown the level of political power that comes with the title, as the jeddaks remain the rulers of their sovereign nations. In essence, it is a sign of respect and honor by the rulers toward John Carter, and the acknowledgement that - should any of them resort to warfare once more - the warlord will be the first into the fray.
