The Sorns are a great and powerful race native to Mars.
The Sorns are an apparently solitary race native to the northern parts of mars, apparently rarely seen. During the Molluscs' occupation of mars they provided a legion of soldiers to fight side by side with the Gullivar's Hithers and John Carter's Green Martians.
The Sorns are giant grey aliens who wear no clothes. Not much is known about the sorns biology, but apparently the Molluscs knew enough to experiment upon them. One known experiment involved a Sorn with wings grafted upon its back.
The Sorns, created by C.S. Lewis were 18 feet tall and first appeared in Out of the Silent Planet, the first book in Lewis’ Space Trilogy; the other two were Perelandra (1943) and That Hideous Strength. The Sorns are one of three species of Malacandrans. There are the Hrossa, poet-farmers; the Pfiltriggi, the artisans; and the Sorns, the scholar-philosophers.
Interestingly, it is noted in H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds, that Wells mentioned another Martian race that closely resembled the Sorns and were used as food for Wells' Martians.
