Ptarth is a Red Martian kingdom located far to the west of Phundahl and southeast of Duhor, as well as northeast of Helium. A country with close diplomatic ties to Helium, it nearly declared war on Helium when Thuvia, Princess of Ptarth, was kidnapped by an airship bearing Heliumite markings.
It was known among the court that Carthoris, Prince of Helium, was in love with the princess even though she had been promised to Kulan Tith, Jeddak of Kaol, and thus it was believed that Carthoris had kidnapped her out of desperation. Later the culprit was revealed to be Astok, Prince of Dusar.
