Barak Sol was a warrior of Thark who grew exhausted with Tars Tarkas as the horde's Jeddak.

It is said by Tars Tarkas that Barak Sol is an old friend, having fought by his side since both were hatched. Tars Tarkas had a great deal of trust in Barak, trusting him as easily as he would trust John Carter, even calling him "His fifth sword arm".
